Lancashire Police Federation Press Release in relation to Shift Review by Lancashire Constabulary
The Federation are in talks with the Chief Constable in relation to a Shift Review. We welcome a review, but a review that ensures the constabulary are providing the best possible shift pattern for our members to help them provide a quality of service to the public and increase the levels of confidence the public have in us.
We also acknowledge the current economic climate we and the public find ourselves in. To place a shift pattern upon us that increases the number of days we work, the extra cost of child care and travel, and the increase in late shifts, will have have a detremental effect on moral.
The number of police officers on the thin blue line is now almost transparant. The Constabulary will over the next couple of years be cutting back on the number of police officers recruited and this will affect front line police numbers. It is our job in the Federation to ensure whatever changes the Chief Constable makes are in line with the relevant legislation and that it has the least impact on the quality of service to the poublic that our members provide.
The Federated members of Lancashire are responsible for front line policing, to affect their moral by altering their working conditions to simply plug a gap is not acceptable.
