Travel Insurance Thailand & Italy Incidents
Please see below some guidance in relation to two incidents that occurred overnight.
You may have seen the media coverage of a hotel bombing in Pattani, Southern Thailand and the following provides guidance to you on the approach being adopted by the travel insurers.
There has been 2 blasts reported at a hotel in Pattani, Southern Thailand.
1 confirmed fatality and 30 injured, all casualties confirmed as being Thai.
No one has yet claimed responsibility, however local security experts believe this was carried out by internal insurgents, rather than international terrorist groups.
"The FCO advise against all but essential travel to the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla on the Thai-Malaysia border."
They have agreed to extend their policies to support customers who do not wish to travel to Pattani, or wish to return home early. This will remain in effect for customers who are due to travel up to the 8th September.
Their previous stance covering customer travelling to Thailand is due to end on the 26th August and they have no plans to extend this any further, however we will maintain a watching brief on the situation in Thailand
You may have seen the media coverage of the earthquake in the central Italian region of Perugia.
An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude hit an area 65 miles NE of Rome at approximately 01:30(GMT).
21 confirmed fatalities, which is expected to rise.
An unconfirmed number of people believed to be trapped under collapsed buildings.
There is a danger of further shocks in the region.
"If you are in the affected area you should follow the advice of the local authorities. If you are in Italy, Civil Protection have activated a hotline for information."
